Samples:

Method:

Method: This suggests that Aarhus was the place of signature. Select from the drop-down lists Treaty Type ["MULTI"] and Place of signature [type "Aarhus"]. Click on the search results to open the records and read the full titles.

Question: Has the Investment Protection Agreement with Turkmenistan been ratified? Is it in Force? Has it been extended to the Crown Dependencies?

Method:
Select from the drop-down lists Treaty Type ["BI"] : Country ["Turkmenistan"] and in the Enter title field, type "Investment" (singular or plural). Click on the search results to open up the record. NB: IPPAS, as they are known, commonly provide for extension to the Crown Dependencies and the Overseas territories of the UK to be done by a separate Exchange of Notes?. The above search strategy should retrieve additional records of any such Exchanges of Notes. Where none are retrieved, no Exchanges have taken place, and therefore the IPPA has not been extended to any other territory. You may cross-check this with the separate list of IPPAS held on the Treaty Pages, or ask our Treaty Enquiry Service.

Question: Which treaties deal with fisheries and marine resources conservation?

Method: This is quite a broad-ranging topic, and you will not retrieve all relevant information in one search. Most of the treaties in this area are Multilateral. It is suggested that successive searches are run using different terms in the Title field such as "Tuna(s)" "Whale(s)", "Seal(s)", "Fish", "Straddling", "pelagic" " try also using "marine resources?. You may wish to copy and paste the search results for further use.

Question: For research purposes, I am trying to discover how many bilateral treaties the UK signed in the period 1850-1900, compared with those signed between 1950-2000.

Method: Simply select Treaty Type ["BI"] and in the Signature Date  [From] [To] box enter a date range. NB. You may be surprised how many treaties are listed (for example, there were 1,453 treaties of all types listed between 1960 and 1970!). There is a limit of 200 items that can be retrieved in any given search ? so you may have to limit your search to small date ranges, and collate the figures accordingly. Once you have your result, re-run the search with your next set of dates. Or, speak to our Treaty Enquiry Service (but please note we cannot provide lists of 100's or 1,000's of treaties!).
